Metlox Pottery took their name from the ‘metal’ and ‘oxide’ used in their glazes. The California pottery began making dinnerware in the early 1930s. Their ‘Poppytrail’ line includes many popular patterns including Antique Grape, California Strawberry, Red Rooster, California Contempora, and Sculptured Daisy. In addition to tableware, Metlox made many figures including the Poppet line, Modern Masterpieces (designed by Carl Romanelli) and the very sought after Nostalgia Line of cars, carriages and sleighs. Metlox also purchased Vernon Kilns in the 1950s and carried their patterns as Vernonware. They shut their doors in 1988.
