Shamrock W Adams and Sons 3 7/8" 1960s Based on a 19th c Design This Irish coffee cup features a green transferware shamrock pattern on a cream body in the Empress shape. It is one of several shamrock patterns Adams offered in the 1960s (but based on a 19th century pattern). The mark on the bottom of the cup is one used in the late 19th century by Adams, but they sometimes recycled old backstamps and so may have chosen to do so in honor of the original pattern that inspired these cups. Related patterns are Accolade (with black shamrocks), Adair (gray), Brentwood (blue), Sharon (brown) & Victoria (pink). The Shamrock (green) pattern was made between 1960-1965 for the American market and is now quite rare.
The cup is in VERY GOOD CONDITION with a hairline crack on the handle; tiny dip on lip; indented under-glaze manufacturing flaw near bottom (use the 'click to enlarge' option to see more images). |
